J SPORTS and STATS Introduce ‘Never Seen Before’ Broadcast Innovations to Japanese Football Audience; Player and Ball Tracking Graphics Provide New Game Insights
Tokyo and Northbrook, IL – August 26, 2009 – J SPORTS, TeleTech and STATS LLC introduced a revolutionary new broadcast technology during the August 16 football match between FC Tokyo and Yokohama.
J SPORTS, and broadcast production partner TeleTech, utilized STATS’ SportVU tracking technology to measure and analyze game action, implementing two dozen revealing new on-air graphics. This was the first such use of the tracking technology within a live Japanese broadcast.
The SportVU system collects positioning data of the ball and participants (players and referees) within the playing field in real time, including measurement of each pass, shot on goal and goalie save. All aspects of the data collection process are completely non-intrusive to game action.
The SportVU product employs proprietary software to analyze the accumulated data streams and compile meaningful information and insights with incredible precision. The result is a powerful lineup of never before seen performance data highlighting ball possession, speed profiles, accumulated distances, fitness graphs and coverage maps, all in real time. These next generation statistics provide deeper game insights.
According to Teletech’s Director, Mr. Kazuo Otake, “It was a great experience for us to broadcast a J.League game with SportVU tracking data and graphics. I believe such data and graphics will change the way Japanese audiences watch J.League games.”
“STATS is proud to introduce this dynamic technology to the Japanese market. In addition to many unique data points, our tracking system offers a full menu of replay and post-game broadcast effects, 360 degree game views and full-scene animations. By utilizing these dramatic viewing enhancements, our partners can take advantage of attractive new sponsor platforms and interactive advertising opportunities,” said STATS’ Hiro Tokonami.
J SPORTS is the largest subscription service sports channel in Japan. In addition to J.League and NPB, J SPORTS broadcasts NBA, BARCLAYS PREMIER LEAGUE, MLB and other sports.
TeleTech is recognized as a premier sports production company, originating extensive golf, marathon, auto racing, baseball and special events programming.
